Movie list 2012

stock_witchbabies

I decided to change the name of my list and make it bigger. It's not going to be only an Oscars list, but a 2012 movies I watched, or wanted to watch and couldn't. Makes more sense XD

I am sure that I won't be able to watch half of that list, but I'll try to watch as many as I can hahaha
That's one of my goals this year. Watch all the movies I want without caring if my friends want to watch them with me or not. I'll go without them if they don't want, no big deal ;D

And yes the list will contain all 2012 movies I want to watch till December, so yeah big list =)
I only added movies till June, but more movies will be added this week.

LIST: MUST SEE MOVIESCollapse )

what do you do on a boring day

stock_witchbabies

Someone just showed this meme to me and I just had to it too XD
So here we go!
Q.1 - Your Team

Chicago Blackhawks

Q.2 - Another team(s) you like, and can even cheer for, if your team is out of the playoffs

Pittsburgh Penguins
Carolina Hurricanes

Q.3 - Now what if I was a man and a hockey player?

Team: Any team who would hire me.
Uniform number. Why? 19. Because this it was the day I was born.
Position: Left Wing
Nickname: No idea XD
Dream linemates: Marian Gaborik (RW) and Evgeni Malkin (C)
Strenghts: Passing, and marking (I'm always good and that and tend to piss off all the people I'm marking)
Weaknessess: I'm not that strong, so maybe I would not be very agressive. Something that sometimes is good but other times is bad.
Injury problems? Maybe with my knee. I had synovitis once (inflammation of the synovial membrane that protects the knee joints) when I hit my knee on the swimming pool border, so... that's the problem I can think of! Something with my knee XD
Scandal involvement: None. I'm way too behaved for that! hahaha
Who I'd face in the Stanley Cup Finals: Vancouver Canucks. Always good to have a real challange to win something =)
Would the media love me or hate me? Like me or hate me I don't know. I just know that they would find me to be very polite and patient (because that's how I am on a day to day basis). And they would also find me to be the quiet kind of person, that is just too shy to be able to say much or even look at the camera! XD

The Forgotten Artist

"We didn't need dialogue... we had faces!" - Miss Norma Desmond

I watched The Artist instead of The Help. I wanted to watch The Help first but in the end I opted for first option.

First, what caught my atention:

  1. The story is very similar to the true story of John Gilbert. Valentin is John Gilbert. Except that Valentin doesn't die and does have a comeback. For more information on John's life for you to compare to Valentin's, just click on the Lj cut =)
  2. The manneirisms of Clara Bow in Bérénice Bejo's acting.

It's a very very very beautiful movie. It touched me a lot. Especially the story. Being a lover of silent movies I always felt pretty sad and depressed about the fact that the majority of people don't even want to watch cinema's baby steps, and completely forgets about the actors of that time who don't get the credits they deserve. Even big stars like Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo Gary Cooper, and Marlene Dietrich are not remembered by their silent movies. Not that their talking career isn't important, but no ones ever talks about their "silent career", or how a movie they made at that time is good.

I really hope The Artist can make people change their minds about a movie being silent. Silent movies can transmit you the same kind of emotions that talkie movies can. It's really a shame that people thinks the silent movie era only contains bad movies and bad actors because they are not "talkies", and I find a pitty that iconic actors and actreses of that time are not remembered today. And it's a shame that talkie pictures completely killed the silent ones, in my opinion movies would be so much interesting if we had both.

So many good talents were lost because of the talkies. So my post kind of pays tribute to some of those forgotten actors:

What's up with the world of internet layout?? I almost want to delete my profile in facebook, but I won't do that. I HATE THE FACEBOOK TIMELINE. There. I yelled it. Why? because the new layout is aweful, difficult to use, not simple at all, confusing, and all over the place! IT'S HORRIBLE!!!!  Why people don't seem to understand that is the simple layouts that we enjoy??? Oh my... give me patience with the internet! XD

Well, now to the places I went these weeks:

The Botanical Garden has always been one of my favorite places to go in Rio. It was created in 1808 by Dom João VI (John VI of Portugal) --- who, at the time, was still a Regent Prince --- with the objective to acclimatize the spices brought from the West Indies. With the arrival of the portuguese roalty, Rio de Janeiro received and gained lots of benefits. One of them was a gunpowder factory, built where the old Rodrigo de Freitas Sugar Mill used to be. The Sugar Mill was close to the Botanical Garden that now encompasses the Sugar Mill and other areas compromising of 140 hectares. It was open to public in 1822. The garden contain more than 6000 different species of tropical and subtropical plants and trees, with 900 varieties of palm trees. The garden house collections includes bromeliads, orchids, carnivorous plants, and cacti.

It's very big so if you're going there for the first time I advise you to ask for a map, they are given for free. There are parts full of people and others not so much and others are completely deserted, however you don't need to worry about security. Nothing ever happens there. And yes... it's big. The last time I went I endep up in a place I had never been before and didn't even know it existed! XD

Pics this way!Collapse )

Then on the beginning of the year I went to Petrópolis. A city that used to be the "summer city" of the royal family. And it's a very pretty city, filled with old colonial houses, cobblestone streets and quietness  =)
The city is on a mountain so you have this incredible view before you arrive:

More pics this way!Collapse )

Now enough with the pics, I'm sure you all tired of it. Well, in regards of my list of movies, even though the oficial list is out, nothing really changed. I only took the Kevin movie out because honestly, I was not interested by that movie at all, and Shame that is not on the oscars and there isn't a date yet here. The three movies that weren't on my list: one I was not able to watch and it's already out of the cinemas, and the other two will only be on the cinemas after the oscars, so it's kind of impossible to watch. So in the end my list is:

War Horse - 06/01/2012 ( LOVED IT --- Watched: 19/01/2012)
J. Edgar - 27/01/2012
The Descendants - 27/01/2012

"I've got a little list!"

stock_witchbabies
Every year I say this to myself but I never really end up doing it: trying to watch all best movies Oscars nominations.

But this year I totally will do that, and even though the list still doesn't exist, I'll start by the Golden Globes nominations and the predictions lists. Thankfully for me, I'll have my exact list on 24th of January XD
I wanted to start to watch the movies a long time ago, but in here nominated movies only go to the cinemas in February. Yeah, the month of the Oscars. So February will be a hectic cinematic month hahahah XD

First movie I'll watch: War Horse. (Starting today)

The movies on my list. I'll have an overdose! XD
As for the dates: D/M/Y

*Shame - doesn't have a date yet. =(

Back from the dead!

After watching The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe on tv, I decided I'm going to watch the other 2 movies.

I watched the first movie when it was still on the cinemas (a loooooooooooooong time ago) and LOVED it. But when the second movie came out, nobody wanted to watch it with me, and I kept postponing it, because I remember at that time there were lots of good movies. Anyway, some time again passed and the third movie came out. And guess what? I didn't watch it. Because I didn't watch the second, and I barely remembered the first, since it was like 5 years since I had watched it.

So today while I was deciding what to watch on tv I stoped in Narnia. And it was in the beginning. The kids had just found the wardrobe, so what the hell I'll watch it. So now one of the month's resolution will be: watch the rest of the Narnia series.

One of my 2012 goals will be to actually start read the Narnia books. I have the money to buy the first one, but I still have some 3 books to finnish. So I'll finnish them first. I'm kinda of a slow reader so, I think it's better to finnish what I already have. To my tremendous luck I'm able to read more than one book at the same time without mixing the plots and characters and I'm still able to remember everything, so I'll take that as an advantage! XD  hahahha

But for now those are my January resolutions.

As to what I've been doing those weeks, not much. I spent a day on a nearby city to pass the time and then I came back, went to the botanical garden and took lots of pictures, and went to a Moraes Moreira concert. I have taken lots of pictures from those 3 events, and I'll post something about it on my next post maybe. I'm trying to conquer my laziness to be able to actually post the pictures here and write about that =P
